Vice Captain's Note

Three Counties League 2011

Cannington enhanced their reputation in the Three Counties League this season by coming runners-up Division 1 to a strong Wincanton team. We also missed out by one point in winning the reserve competition.

Cannington was also asked to host the 3CL Captains Day which proved an enjoyable day and resulted in positive comments about the course from those clubs who have not played at Cannington before.

The season came to its traditional finish with the Freeman Trophy and presentation evening at Long Sutton. Although we did not win the team trophy on the day, Josh Butterfield claimed the longest drive competition by some distance.

Unfortunately, our run in the Winter Knockout Cup stalled at the first hurdle as we were lost to Charminster on a sudden death play-off after drawing the main match.

Next season we will be playing against Yeovil and Long Sutton, who were promoted, as well as Wheathill and Wincanton.

Twenty-eight players represented Cannington this year and hopefully we can build on this in 2012 so we can make a stronger challenge for the league title.

If you would like to represent the club next season keep an eye on the notice board and put your name forward for selection, and don't forget, ladies are able to play in the league team.
